Ray H. Hill Chair in Ophthalmology
Est. 1997
The Ray H. Hill Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology was established in 1997 with gifts from Ray Hill’s wife, Grace E. Hill. It was augmented with funds from the Ray and Grace Hill Trust after she died.
Ray H. Hill was born in 1900, and he received a B.A. in economics and business from the University of Washington in 1924. He had a successful career in the wholesale lumber business. During his lifetime, Mr. Hill made several gifts to the UW in support of eye disease studies; he died in 1991.
Grace E. Hill was born in 1904. She received a B.A. in general studies from the University of Washington in 1925, and she continued her husband’s philanthropic efforts until her death in 1999. The Hills also established the Grace E. Hill Chair in Vision Research.
