Hansjöerg Wyss Endowed Chair
The Hansjöerg Wyss Endowed Chair was established in 2003 to enable the University of Washington to attract and retain a distinguished faculty member, one focused on the study and evaluation of surgical solutions for spinal disorders.
Hansjörg Wyss was born and raised in Switzerland. After receiving a master’s degree in civil and structural engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Mr. Wyss attended the Harvard Graduate School of Business, where he earned an MBA with distinction.
In 1977, Mr. Wyss became president of Synthes USA, a firm manufacturing Swiss-designed medical devices. His company, which now has operations worldwide, specializes in orthopedic instruments and implants. Under Mr. Wyss’s leadership, the company has become a global leader in the medical device industry.
