Biography
Dr. Abkowitz is a hematologist; she received an M.D. from Harvard University. She directs a research lab with a major focus on hematopoietic stem cell physiology and red blood cell development. Her work should help define the causes of (and develop new treatments for) red cell aplasia, aplastic anemia, polycythemia vera and other myeloproliferative disorders, myelodysplasia and leukemia. In 2013, Dr. Abkowitz will begin her term as president of the American Society of Hematology.
