William T.C. Yuh, M.D., MSEE
Ellsworth C. and Nancy D. Alvord Endowed Chair in Neuro-oncology
Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Radiology
Prior to joining UW Medicine, Dr. William T.C. Yuh held the Bob G. Eaton Chair in Radiological Sciences at the University of Oklahoma and was vice chair of the Department of Radiology at Ohio State University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Chiaotung University in Taiwan, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and an M.D. from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He completed his radiology residency at UCLA and subsequently three fellowships in nuclear medicine, CT/ultrasound and neuroradiology. Dr. Yuh is triple certified by the medical board in radiology, nuclear medicine and neuroradiology.
His interests and expertise are in advanced imaging for diagnosis and imaging-guided treatment of various disease entities, imaging-based disease heterogeneity, and optimizing efficacy of imaging contrast agents. During the early development phase of the magnetic resonance (MR) contrast agents, Dr. Yuh designed and conducted many clinical trials and facilitated the FDA approval of MR contrast agents, which have become essential components of current MR imaging examination. His recent research focuses on assessing tumor heterogeneity for early prediction of ultimate treatment outcome for cancer and for the collateral circulation status for triaging therapy for acute stroke. Under Dr. Yuh’s leadership and with the support of the Departments of Radiology and Radiation Oncology, a heterogeneity imaging lab is being established at UW Medicine to further facilitate research collaboration and personalized clinical translation.
Dr. Yuh is an elected Fellow for the American Association of the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the International Society of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Medicine (ISMRM) and the American College of Radiology (ACR). He has authored and co-authored over 300 scientific publications. Dr. Yuh is the current associate editor for Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, current editorial board member of Topic in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, past editorial board member of Spine and reviewer for many scientific journals. Dr. Yuh has been invited as the special guest-editor to address various imaging topics for major scientific journals related to his expertise in advanced imaging, technical challenges and cost-effectiveness. These special journal issues have set the standards for imaging research and clinical practice.
Dr. Yuh has made numerous contributions to the professional societies of his fields of expertise. He has been recognized by his peers as an outstanding physician and clinician scientist through integration of engineering, medicine and advanced imaging to advance medical imaging and sciences, and facilitate clinical translation aiming to improve cost-effectiveness, quality of care and outcome. He is highly regarded as a renowned educator and has mentored numerous physicians and scientists, many of who have risen to national and international prominence.
