The Friends of the UW School of Medicine was originally established by spouses of faculty members. Now the group, which raises money for student scholarship, consists of spouses, faculty, and other friends of the School. This scholarship, one of four scholarships supported by the Friends, was created to honor Lorna Aagaard’s long-term dedication to the School of Medicine. Dr. George Aagaard, Mrs. Aagaard’s husband, was the second dean of the School of Medicine (1954–64), and the UW’s first distinguished professor of medicine. Both the Aagaards contributed a great deal to the life and health of UW Medicine.
