Family Travel Program

The purpose of the family travel program is to provide students' spouses or same-sex domestic partners an opportunity to evaluate the WWAMI site as a potential living area. Spouse/same-sex domestic partner* and family** travel expenses to and from WWAMI required clerkships may be reimbursed according to the terms of the Spouse/Same-Sex Domestic Partner Travel Program.

Terms

The spouse/same-sex domestic partner and/or children must be at the site for the entirety of the clerkship.

Students and their spouse/same-sex domestic partner must obtain pre-approval from the School of Medicine travel desk at least 6 weeks in advance of requested travel dates if they are traveling by air.

Driving reimbursement will only be paid for one vehicle. Costs of additional vehicles or use of a moving van, trailer rental, bicycle, etc., as well as any additional food or loding costs, are the responsibility of the student.

Procedure

Students and their spouse/same-sex domestic partner interested in participating in the Family Travel program should email GoWWAMI@u.washington.edu 6 weeks in advance of preferred departure date to obtain preapproval for travel. The email should include the name of the spouse/same-sex domestic partner and preferred dates of travel.

The spouse/same-sex domestic partner is required to write a letter to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs assessing the site as a potential living area at the conclusion of his/her stay.
