Proposed Cuts to Higher Education
- State funding for the University of Washington has declined 55% over the past five years, causing a 37.4% increase in tuition in the past two years alone.
- Students are facing higher tuition, cuts to financial aid, the elimination of programs, loss of faculty, and larger classes with fewer TAs.
- It is time for legislators to take a balanced approach and find new sources of revenue for higher education.
Programs that Benefit Graduate and Professional Students
Two programs that are on the chopping block:
- Child Care Matching Grant: Provides child care so student parents can get their education.
- State Work Study: Puts students to work earning their education and building skills.
