Road & Pathway Snow Removal Strategy:
The goal of our snow removal strategy is to make the campus accessible to emergency vehicles, public transportation, students, staff and faculty. Our first priority will be to plow all the essential access areas, the major roads on campus and the medical center. Once these areas are cleared, our priority will shift to secondary roads and pathways and then parking lot access. Medical Center staff parking areas will be a priority. See maps for road and pathway removal routes. Once the roads are plowed, sanding will be accomplished only in areas where traction is required. Sanding will be kept to a minimum to reduce the expense of clean up and storm drain contamination. We do not use salt due to environmental concerns but will rely on safe de-icers wherever necessary. We will continue to plow and sand as necessary to keep the roads and pathways accessible for all vehicles and pedestrians. The campus police will determine any road closures. After the snow has melted our street sweepers will be dispatched to clean the roads and walks of sand and debris. The road-plowing program can be very dynamic, altered by the ever-changing weather conditions.
