Career Options for Graduates

The Global Trade, Transportation, and Logistics Studies program provides students the opportunity to pursue interests in global trade pertinent to their academic or professional backgrounds in an interdisciplinary environment. MBA graduates learn to apply business skills to transportation planning offices, engineers to consider transport systems in product design, and public agency officers learn to incorporate logistics issues in policy planning, widening their career options.

With the GTTL Certificate, graduates stand out from other job applicants. GTTL graduates are conversant on specific trade policy issues and logistics systems interacting with their general field of study. They can consider the ins-and-outs of transportation networks and goods shipments when making decisions and recognize how their primary field of study operates in the complex network that defines international commerce in the 21 st century.

GTTL coursework gives students vital preparation for a wide variety of fields, including the following:

  • Transportation Planning, Construction, and Management
  • Retail Store Management
  • International Finance

  • Humanitarian Aid and Relief Operations
  • Civil, Environmental, and Industrial Engineering

Alumni Experiences

Hear from our alumni about how the GTTL Studies program and coursework has shaped their careers!

Robert Holland, Market Analyst for Alaska Horizon Lines, LLC
Global Supply Chain Management Certificate Program, UW Extension, 2003

"I wanted to work for a public port authority after completing my master in public administration. What I didn't have was a strong background in global transportation logistics. The UW's evening GTTL certificate program helped me to have a better understanding of moving goods on various modes of transport. In addition, through the program I completed a great internship with the Port of Tacoma ."

Steve Queen, Marketing Manager, Containers, Port of Seattle
Former Management Analyst, Port of Tacoma
M.S. in Transportation Planning, UW School of Civil Engineering, 1997

“GTTL studies gave me a unique educational background as I moved into the job market. Diploma versus diploma, my resume looked like any other. In an interview, however, I was able to separate myself from the crowd with my ability to discuss current policy issues like railroad mergers, Harbor Maintenance Tax and the Jones Act. My GTTL certificate launched me into the port industry and made the difference for my career."
