Seattle Macroeconomic Literacy Training Resources

Health Alliance International hosted a training to increase macroeconomic policy literacy on June 19-20, 2008. The training provided a basic understanding of the effect of International Monetary Fund (IMF) policies on health and social sector budgets in low income countries. HAI 2008 Fundraiser

On Thursday June 19th, Health Alliance International held its first benefit dinner and auction at Habesha Ethiopian Restaurant in downtown Seattle. Over 70 people, including HAI staff, Board members, and friends joined us for the fundraiser event that included silent and live auctions, an extensive Ethiopian buffet dinner, and a dessert auction. Program Challenges: The Crisis in Timor-Leste

For more than a year, a political crisis leading to turmoil and violence has gripped the new nation of Timor-Leste (formerly East Timor). The crisis began in March 2006 when 591 soldiers from the country's western region were dismissed after signing a petition claiming discrimination inside the 1300-strong Timor-Leste Defense Force (FDTL). On April 28, a demonstration by the dismissed soldiers turned violent. In the weeks of rioting that followed at least 25 people were killed, houses and shops were burned and looted and many of the 130,000 residents of the capital city of Dili fled their homes. More…
