Building Provincial Capacity to Expand ART – Expansion to Tete and Nampula Provinces

HAI’s efforts to reinforce the Ministry of Health’s capacity to expand ART are expanding to cover an additional two provinces – Tete and Nampula. At the request of the Ministry of Health, and with financial support from the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation, HAI will be building institutional capacity of the Provincial Health Directorates in the overall planning, coordination, implementation and oversight of expansion of ART services and their integration into Primary Health Care. Additional support will focus on the pharmaceutical sector in Nampula Province, and monitoring and evaluation efforts in Tete. Two technical elements are working hand-in-hand with Provincial Health Directorate staff in each province. HAI’s technical support team have been tasked to:

  1. Coordinate stake-holders involved in provincial-based HIV/AIDS activities to maximize the effectiveness of the ART expansion program
  2. Improve ART integration into the National Health Service
  3. Strengthen communication channels between health facilities, non-governmental and community-based organizations, and other key stake-holders
  4. Support the implementation of standardized quality assurance activities through ongoing monitoring, evaluation and provide on-the-job training and supervision.
