SPS LST Student Technologist

Description
The Learning & Scholarly Technologies Seattle Public Schools program promotes the effective use of technology by placing a college student in a public school to provide computer networking and desktop support services during the academic year (the beginning of September-mid June). These students build and maintain individual school servers, networks, and file and print services. Student technicians may also work with teachers to incorporate the use of computers into classroom experience, help design curricula, teach software workshops, and always work to keep the school computers and networks operational. Paid Research Internship

Big Fish Games is looking for a full-time research intern to better understand casual
gamers and maximize the fun in our games and game community experiences. As an
intern you’ll support our audience definition as well as qualitative and quantitative
research including expert reviews, surveys, and user testing.

In this role you will assist user experience research events relating to community play and
finding, trying, and buying games online. Using web metrics and path analysis you will
expand user personas and assist in user-centered design practices across teams. Deliver
recommendations on how to increase traffic.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
• Assisting in research study logistics and logging data, including user interviews,
contextual inquiries, field studies, and surveys
• Playing games & delivering expert reviews of competitive game sites
• Expanding user profiles and personas as the customer base evolves
• Work closely with cross-functional teams on research projects

Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
• A degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, or equivalent preferred
• Familiarity with user-centered research methods and best practices
• Independent self-starter and detail-oriented
• Curiosity and strong communication skills
• Work well in a fast-paced team environment with iterative design process

We are seeking applicants for a TA position for the undergraduate course Informatics 424: Information Visualization and Aesthetics. This course examines the visualization of information. Students will explore human perception, the aesthetics of information design, and the mechanics of visual display.

This position will average 20 hours per week. This course meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. with a lab on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Classes run from September 24th through December 12th. We are seeking applicants for a TA position in TC’s 231/333 Program

Course descriptions: TC 231, Introduction to Technical Writing. Principles of organizing, developing, and writing technical information. Report forms and rhetorical patterns common to scientific and technical disciplines.
Technical writing conventions such as headings, illustrations, style, and tone. TC 333. Emphasis on the presentation of technical information to various audiences. Style of writing required for proposals, reports, and journal articles. Oral presentation principles, including use of visuals, as well as organizing and presenting an effective talk.

Specific duties of this position:

. Facilitate activities explicitly called out by the syllabus;
lecture, facilitate discussions, and conduct workshop and other activities; manage wait lists and add codes; and request student assessments for the course.

. Attend weekly teaching seminar; prepare lecture notes, handouts,
overheads, and other resource materials as needed; request and/or acquire necessary equipment or special rooms or labs; provide grades and feedback to students in a timely fashion; calculate, record, sign, and submit final quarter grades by the UW deadline; submit grading samples to supervisor for review and feedback during the first two quarters of teaching; manage and respond to general course-related email and update the class through email or postings.

. Provide regular, individual help to students through office hours,
email, or instant messaging; hold individual conferences with students once per quarter.

This position is open to all University of Washington graduate students.
