$350,000 in Scholarships is Available!

Pride Foundation and the Greater Seattle Business Association’s (GSBA) Scholarship Application for the 2009-10 school year is now available!

There are over 50 different types of scholarships but only 1 application to complete (most applicants qualify for a number of their scholarships). More than $350,000 is available for future Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) and Straight-Ally leaders and role models!

Job Description: The Omni Group is seeking help in creating world-class documentation to ship with our world-class products. The Documentation Wrangler position is part of our Documentation team, and in turn is part of our User Experience team, but also works closely with Engineering, Marketing, QA, and Support.

Job Activities:

- Write end-user software documentation for Mac OS X and iPhone productivity applications – both traditional user manuals and searchable help.
- Work with the Support team to maintain online resources such as FAQ lists, troubleshooting guides, sample documents, and tips.
- Use version-control and bug-tracking systems to corral documentation resources for multiple versions of multiple products simultaneously.
- Watch out for places where our software could be improved, and file bugs accordingly; after all, you will be working with prerelease versions of our products, and documentability is an indicator of usability.
- Participate in refining and managing our documentation process, creating schedules and tracking progress.

Science & Technology Showcase

In partnership with the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE), the Science & Engineering Business Association (SEBA) is providing you a platform to express your ideas with commercial potential to an audience of fellow science and engineering, MBAs and investors from the Seattle business community. Any science/technology based idea you believe a company can be built around could win you up to a $1000 in prize money. That’s right – not only will you have a chance to gain feedback on your work from experts but you could win cash prizes. The ideas can be at any stage from basic idea to completed product. Last year we gave away SIX cash prizes and an iPod touch to a field of 23 contestants; this year we will give even more prizes. STS is also an excellent way to practice and find a team for CIE’s Business Plan Competition, an event that takes place every spring and awards over $70,000 in prize money. This is a ‘can’t miss’ opportunity!!

The cost to you is simply your time and willingness to display your creativity to an engaged and experienced audience. To register you must fill out the form located here. Teams of two are welcome and encouraged. All registered applicants will have a reserved seat at the Pitch Clinic hosted by Rebecca Lovell of the Alliance of Angels on October 22nd, the Tech Transfer Intellectual Property Information Session on October 28th and finally the Showcase itself on November 5th.
For the Showcase you will present a poster that explains your idea and its market potential. (note: Although you are responsible for making the poster, SEBA will pay/reimburse you for the printing costs).

Study Abroad Fair

On Wednesday, October 22, International Programs and Exchanges will be hosting our 8th Annual Study Abroad Fair in Mary Gates Commons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In previous years, the fair has attracted more than 1500 UW students, exploring the opportunities that exist to expand their education across borders. This year, we anticipate that more than 200 international educational opportunities will be presented at the fair. A number of our university exchange partners will be present, including guests from Australia, Taiwan, and Denmark, along with representatives from international internship and study abroad program providers representing programs around the globe.

In addition to being able to talk with Study Abroad Fair exhibitors and UW study abroad advisors, students will be able to attend concurrent information sessions. We’ve added a number of new sessions this year including…

Part-Time Production Position

Strategic communication firm is looking for a part-time production person. Tasks include working with online managers and development lead to make updates to websites using internal corporate CMS and SharePoint tools. Must be familiar with HTML, Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint. Must also be able to do image production, including Web optimization. Ideal candidate is technically savvy, proactive and self-motivated. Must have a computer running Windows and the ability to do basic computer maintenance.

Seattle Audubon seeks an Ad Manager for Earthcare Northwest, Seattle Audubon’s official newsletter!

The Ad Manager for Seattle Audubon’s Earthcare Northwest newsletter contacts potential advertisers to coordinate the placement of advertisements in 9 issues of the newsletter per year. This vital volunteer position helps fund the publication and mailing of Seattle Audubon’s newsletter. The Ad Manager works closely with the Earthcare Editor and Publisher.
