ABOUT KEXP INTERNSHIPS
KEXP offers internships in all areas of radio broadcasting. Interns will gain real world experience in a broad array of fields including non-profit fundraising, marketing, sales, web design, sound engineering, and music programming. KEXP interns will learn skills in business communication, project management, problem solving, audio technology, database management and more. These skills and experiences offer our interns a unique ground-level glimpse of the day-to-day life of a community radio station, while offering relationship building and networking opportunities that will aid in securing future employment in the music industry
*HOW TO APPLY:*

*GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS – WHAT WE LOOK FOR*
KEXP internships are highly competitive. In general, we look for individuals who are motivated, independent workers, team players, organized, efficient, excellent communicators, comfortable on Microsoft Office applications and most importantly have a fanatical love of music, and knowledge of KEXP and our mission in the community.
*TYPES OF INTERNSHIPS*
We have internships in the following areas. Each area has a beginning, intermediate and advanced internship. Placement in either beginning, intermediate or advanced internships is determined by your previous skills and experience. Please apply for the area that most interests you:
*MUSIC BUSINESS, ADMINISTRATION, SALES & FUNDRAISING : *This internship allows interns to work directly with members of KEXP’s Administration, Underwriting, and Development Department and offers hands-on experience in fundraising, information management, nonprofit and music business.
_Education required to apply_: At least 1 year of high school
_Tasks:_ Tasks vary in each internship but can include:
/(Beginning):/ Filing, data entry, phone calls, mailing merchandise to members //
/(Intermediate):/ Database management, volunteer coordinating, securing food donations
/(Advanced):/ Reporting, scheduling on-air spots, interacting with members and sponsors at KEXP events
_Qualifications_: See General Qualifications. Previous experience working in an office, doing data entry, working with databases, or coordinating events a plus!

*ONLINE, BLOGGING AND WEB SERVICES:* This internship allows interns to work directly with members of KEXP’s Online Department and offers hands-on experience in web design, social networking, blogging and more!
_Education_: At least 1 year of high school
_Tasks:_ Tasks vary in each internship but can include:
/(Beginning)/ routine updates of KEXP Myspace and Facebook page, writing weekly blog articles
/(Intermediate)/ assisting with securing podcast licenses, basic web development//
/(Advanced) /Advanced level web design and development, project management //
_Qualifications: _ See above for General Requirements. We also look for knowledge of HTML, familiarity with Myspace, Facebook and other social networking sites. Knowledge of flash, Javascript, ajax, Google Apps, .net, .ne and C+ a plus!

*MARKETING AND EVENT PLANNING:* This internship allows interns to work directly with members of KEXP’s Events and Marketing Department and offers hands-on experience in project management, event planning, marketing, working with sponsors, and more!
_Education_: High School Diploma

_Tasks:_ Tasks vary in each internship but can include:
/ (Beginning)/ Filing, data entry, street team/guerilla promotions
/(Intermediate)/ Volunteer coordination, event production, writing and scheduling promotional spots
/(Advanced)/ Assist with the booking and management of KEXP events, write press releases, help coordinate KEXP’s online and on-the-ground marketing efforts in Seattle and around the country.

*PROGRAMMING AND DJ ASSISTANTS:* This internship allows interns to work directly with KEXP’s programming department, and offers hands-on experience in DJ assisting, programming and more!

/ (Beginning)/ Burning and copying CDs, CD maintenance, DJ Assisting
/(Intermediate)/ CD Reviews, maintaining the KEXP concert calendar, tracks and reports albums played by KEXP DJs
/(Advanced)/ Maintaining the KEXP music library, overseeing the digitalization of CDs

*AUDIO AND VIDEO PRODUCTION: *This internship allows interns to work directly with KEXP’s Production and Online department, and offers hands on experience in live sound, recorded sound, video production and more!

_Tasks:_ Tasks vary in each internship but can include:
/(Beginning) /Filing, database management, maintaining sound equipment, band hospitality
/(Intermediate)/ Photo editing, assisting KEXP engineers at live-remote broadcasts and in-studio performances, basic sound editing.
/(Advanced)/ Filming and editing video for KEXP’s blog and video podcasts, sound production for KEXP on-air pre-produced spots
_Qualifications: _ See above for General Requirements. We are also looking for people with experience in live and recorded sound, video editing, and advanced photo editing skills.
