• Conducts usability studies, analyzes data and writes reports under the supervision of a Usability Engineer or Usability Manager.
• Develops and manages relationship with product team. Works with the product team to develop test questions and usability studies.
• Oversees projects and works with the supervising Usability Engineer or Manager in identifying and addressing critical usability issues.

Skills Required:

• Work related experience in Human Machine Interaction or usability required.
• Demonstrated skill in collecting and analyzing human behavioral data required.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.

16th Annual Martin Luther King Jr.

Math and Science Celebration

at the Pacific Science Center

Thursday, January 15th, 2009, 8:30-1:30 pm

Four hundred and fifty fourth and fifth graders from five Seattle area elementary schools will attend the celebration. UW student volunteers will serve as tour guides for the event, leading groups of children through the PSC exhibits and a laser show. UW student volunteers also play the role of mentor to young children who may not see college in their future. The school children will also hear a motivational presentation from a professional & student who will speak about the importance of education, overcoming barriers as well as an array of opportunities that exist in math science, technology and engineering.

The event, held each January, honors the work and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Math and Science Celebration was founded by Dr. Constance Rice in 1992. The program is sponsored by Microsoft and coordinated by Seattle Public Schools, Engineering Advising & Diversity Center, and the Pacific Science Center.

Social Computing in 2020: Bluesky Innovation Competition- Jan. 30th submission deadline

The Bluesky Innovation Competition on “Social Computing in 2020” seeks to promote new research directions for social-computing technologies of the future. Organized by the University of California’s Transliteracies Project and UC Santa Barbara’s Social Computing Group, this competition is open to students worldwide. We encourage participants to think broadly and freely about how society and technology will interact 10 to 20 years from now — far enough in the future to stretch our imagination of technology, yet near enough to be plausible.

Eligible: Undergraduate and graduate students

Deadline: January 30, 2009

First prize: $3000 USD. Second prize: $1000. Third prize: $500.

The Spring 2009 Northeast ASEE Conference will be held on April 3-4, 2009
at the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Connecticut, U.S.A. This
year’s conference theme is: Engineering in the New Global Economy.

In the coming years, our world will continue to face economical,
environmental and energy related problems. How is Engineering and
Engineering Technology Education responding to the needs of our society and
the world? This will be the theme for an exhilarating and thought provoking
weekend of professional workshops, presentations, and discussions at the
University of Bridgeport.

The ASEE Northeast Section is soliciting faculty papers, student papers and
student posters which address the various challenges and paradigms in this
technological world through research and instructional programs in
Engineering and Engineering Technology education. There are three
conference tracks:

3. Student posters

The deadline for abstract submission is February 27th, 2009. Prospective

Localization Project Manager

Location: Seattle

Job Description: FILTER has a contract opportunity (3 months to start) for an experienced Localization Project Manager. Our ideal candidate has 3 to 5 years experience as a localization PM, is capable of managing localization vendors, and is well-versed in Product Terminology management.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
* Coordinating pilot localization activities with IPE, Developer, PM and testing teams
* Compiling glossaries of key product terminology as needed
* Terminology management
* Triaging localization bugs
* Collaborating closely with International Project Engineers (IPE)
* Managing multi-language localization vendors
* Managing software and UA localization projects
* Recommending process improvements where needed

Required Skills: * Solid project management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
* Understanding of the product development cycle is preferred
* Excellent process-improvement and troubleshooting skills
* Experience in software globalization and localizability
* Experience in managing multiple-language localization vendor
* Experience in terminology management tool
* Experience in Microsoft Project
* BS degree in language related field, or equivalent work experience
* Good English presentation and communication skills (both written and verbal)
