This fall, ESPN, the Worldwide Leader in Sports is launching an exciting new web venture dedicated to covering local digital sports. ESPN is looking for highly motivated individuals passionate about local sports and interested in joining our team.

ESPN’s Digital Media team is seeking an ambitious and bright designer to support our Digital Partnership business. The position requires strong communication and collaboration skills, with an experienced design background preferably in the sports and Online / Digital Media space. Ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of combined design experience.

Specific Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
1. Be able to design and implement creative concepts for web pages, as well as interactive user interfaces

2. Coordinate design needs across all relevant business areas such as editorial, marketing, production, technology and sales

3. Adhere to overall ESPN.com design standards, procedures and best practices while delivering an innovative, quality design that is consistent with the brand

4. Participate in translating content and site characteristics into design concepts, designs and layouts

5. Participates in design meetings; may interact with producers, editors and promotions personnel to establish the design parameters, specifications, and schedules for assigned design projects

A user-friendly interface can keep people on your page for longer, writes Greg Muller.

Website design is more than animated spinning logos, embarrassing soundtracks and an inappropriate use of scrolling marquees and blinking text.

The speed at which technology has evolved has been extraordinary and it’s vital for small businesses to understand the key elements of modern design.

A website with a great design can provide a key competitive advantage. This can lead to new business and even provide an opening to tap into new markets that might not have been possible otherwise. A great website design never comes in a “one size fits all” solution.

Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard for image editing. This robust program will help you enhance your photographs and images, and give your work a professional edge. In this introductory workshop, you will learn how to navigate Photoshop’s toolbars and pallets, create text, use the paint brush and selection tools, work with layers, and save your images. Additional topics are covered in Photoshop II.

JavaScript workshop today, 2- 4 pm, Odegaard 102

Catalyst is offering a 2-day JavaScript workshop this afternoon.

Workshops are always free and take place in air conditioned computer labs!

JavaScript

JavaScript is an easy way to make your Web site interactive. It allows the browser to make decisions about how to display content based on user input. You will learn how to create image rollovers and how to use the document object model to dynamically control the content and display of your Web site. This workshop focuses on the document object model, which is used to make your pages come alive. The second day continues and combines features from the popular Prototype.js framework. Knowledge from Programming for the Web and CSS is assumed.

Xchanges is a refereed online interdisciplinary Technical Communication and Writing journal published by New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech).  Xchanges is seeking submissions of Senior theses or other research projects completed by Technical Communication and/or Technical Writing majors during the 2007-2008 or 2008-2009 academic years.  For our inaugural issue from our new home at New Mexico Tech, we are seeking undergraduate theses/research projects in both traditional print and hypertextual or multimedia formats.  Theses must present innovative and original research of interest to technical communicators in a range of professional settings. The focus of the journal Xchanges is broad and inclusive, thus the journal editors are not stipulating research-topic parameters for this issue.
