University of Washington

Office of Research

The University of Washington’s Office of Research has an outstanding opportunity for a Usability Analyst/Visual Designer with a strong background in visual communication and design.

Responsibilities:
The University of Washington receives more federal research funding than any other American public university.  Last year alone, over 5000 proposals were submitted and awards totaled over one billion dollars.  The Office of Research Information Service (ORIS) provides critical guidance, compliance documents, funding information, tracking tools, online application forms, and other related information.  The accurate, timely, and efficient delivery of such information ensures UW’s competitive advantage over peer institutions – making UW a great place to do research.  The Usability Analyst / Visual Designer will be responsible for improving the usability, navigability and credibility of various key Office of Research websites.

The Usability Analyst/Visual Designer will:

  • Identify key performance indicators for user experience, then measure/collect, analyze and report on findings in order to optimize web usage and user satisfaction.
  • Create sites that are visually compelling, easy to understand, and take into account user expectations and unit goals.
  • Apply human–computer interaction and user-centered design principles to graphic elements, page layout, information architecture, and keyword selection to ensure that they are optimized for user performance.
  • Develop templates and design pattern libraries based on style guidelines and graphic elements provided by UW Marketing.
  • Assist with production support requests
  • Manage productive relationships with clients, user groups, and others

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Visual Communications and Design, or similar.
  • 2+ years of experience in visual communications design for the web
  • 1+ years of incorporating user data into design decisions
  • Online portfolio of visual design and usability projects

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification may be required prior to hire.
