Intel Innovators

We are excited to tell you about Intel’s programs to promote entrepreneurship and innovation among young people and how you can participate.

Intel is announcing Intel Innovators a US competition on Facebook to inspire, discover and award the best game-changing ideas.   This program is targeted at young people 18-24 years old.  Intel has gathered a panel of start-up and technology experts to evaluate submissions and select the most promising ideas. A One Day Course Taught by Edward Tufte

This class is presented by Edward Tufte. Edward Tufte has written seven books, including Beautiful Evidence, Visual Explanations, Envisioning Information, The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, and Data Analysis for Politics and Policy. He writes, designs, and self-publishes his books on analytical design, which have received more than 40 awards for content and design. He is Professor Emeritus at Yale University, where he taught courses in statistical evidence, information design, and interface design. His current work includes landscape sculpture, printmaking, video and a new book.

Scholarships for Women in Computer Degree Programs

The Association of Women in Computing in Puget Sound offers two $1,000 scholarships each year.

Each year, AWC/PS offers $1000 scholarships to two women enrolled in an Information Technology program in a Puget Sound area college. Please pass this on to your students to apply for this scholarship. CDC Flu App Challenge

CDC and HSS are sponsoring a challenge for the development of a Flu app. Details are in the link and below.

The contest was just announced and runs through May 27.

The Centers for Disease Control is  looking for an innovative use of technology to raise awareness of influenza and/or educate consumers on ways to prevent and treat the flu.   Develop an innovative mobile or web app, data visualization tool, or game using CDC flu data and enter to win.  $35,000 in prizes! HCIC 2011 Advance Program is available
