Computer Design & Assembly

We design & assemble a Personal Computer (“PC”) using industry standard components: chassis, power supply, motherboard, CPU, memory, video card, optical/floppy/disk drives and operating system.  First session will disassemble and, with time, re-assemble a broken PC.  Later sessions focus on selection and proper installation of all components.  One field trip is planned to InterConnection near the UW campus, to experience Volunteer Orientation and tour their factory.

UW Technology survey– your feedback influences how UW spends your money

UW Learning & Scholarly Technologies (LST) is conducting a survey of how and where students use technology to do their work as students as well as what students envision for the future. Your answers to this survey will help LST improve and expand technology spaces and services for students. Please share this email with the students in your department. The survey is for UW students only.

The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete. Participation in this survey is voluntary, and answers are confidential. At the end of the survey, students will have the opportunity to complete a separate entry into our drawing for a chance to win one of ten $25 gift certificates to the University Bookstore. The drawing will be held and winners will be notified by December 4, 2009. Questions about this survey should be directed to Cara Lane at cgiacomi@uw.edu.

The survey is available online at https://catalysttools.washington.edu/webq/survey/lstuw/86988

More information about the survey can be found at http://www.uw.edu/lst.

Autumn qtr. Catalyst workshops announced

catalystBy far the best deal in town: free workshops to UW students on software, hardware, programming, and digital media editing, and blog and wiki installation. Take advantage of these workshops while you can!

http://www.washington.edu/lst/workshops

Most LST workshops are walk-in sessions, designed and taught by our student instructors. These workshops have a fun, casual atmosphere. To attend, you will need your UW NetID and Husky card. If a workshop fills, seating preference will be given to students.

Select workshops are designed specifically for UW instructors and employees (marked with Designed for UW instructors and employees). These workshops are taught by LST’s professional staff, and include information about best practices for use of the technology in teaching and research contexts.

Custom Workshops

LST can customize its workshops offerings to fit the needs and schedule of your class or department. Contact us today with your request for a custom workshop. Learn more.
