Here are some ways you can get involved with other people in your community, and become more independent.
  • Four girls reading together.Serve as a resource person for clinics that serve other people with your disability.
  • Participate in peer support groups.
  • Act as a role model for younger people with your illness or disability.
  • Learn about the people in your community who can help you with psychological problems.
  • Join associations that represent your disability or chronic illness.
  • If you have questions about sexuality, ask someone you know and you feel comfortable with--perhaps a teacher, counselor, health professional, or one of your parents.
  • Get involved in a team sport. You'll make new friends, and the exercise will be good for you!
