- Ioannina, Greece (offered every spring
quarter; next offered spring 2009)
The University of Washington has an extensive study abroad program in Ioannina, Greece
with certain features that apply to all the individual programs such as credit
hours, costs of the program, and the overall schedule.
Goals of the Study Abroad in Ioannina, Greece
- To increase the facility in
modern Greek of the study through intensive study and by direct and
constant exposure to Greek speakers
- To provide study on the site
of Greek culture from ancient times to the present.
- To become familiar with
national and cultural issues both as they have developed in the past and
they are manifested in the present.
Students receive 15 credits for their quarter of study abroad, the normal
load for each quarter at the University
of Washington. To fulfill
the goals, the credits are allocated equally for Modern Greek language study (5
credits), a course in a particular aspect of Greek culture (5 credits), and a
course examining a current national, cultural issue. Short excursions are made
to important sites and the final week consists of a final tour to more distant
