Populations at Risk for Viral Hepatitis

While viral hepatitis affects a diverse group of people, some populations bear a disproportionate burden of the prevalence of infection with certain hepatitis types and of associated adverse outcomes. These 'special populations' include inmates of correctional facilities, people infected with HIV, immigrants to the U.S. from some countries, Native Americans, health care workers, intravenous drug users (IDU), and men who have sex with men (MSM). This site offers several features to help enhance your ability to provide care to special populations at risk for viral hepatitis:

Many of the case modules present patients who belong to these high risk populations. Please select cases listed below each population for more information. More cases will be added to this list as they are developed.

National guidelines have been formulated for the management of viral hepatitis in some special populations. These can be accessed through our Resources page.
