New Treatment for BV and Yeast
The University of Washington is seeking female volunteers for a BV and yeast infection treatment study. The purpose of this study is to learn how well two forms of a new investigational medicine treat bacterial vaginosis (BV) and/or yeast infections. We also want to learn how safe the medicines are, and how well a person can take the medicine.
The study will last about one month and involve 3 clinic visits. Eligible participants will be randomized to receive one of two medications: either a gel or an insert (like a suppository) that they will use vaginally every night for 7 days. Participants will be asked to record when they take the medicine in a study diary. All participants must agree not to use tampons or have sex for the first 7 days of the study. A pelvic exam will be performed at each clinic visit to collect vaginal swab samples.
To be eligible for the study you must:
- Be a woman between the ages of 18-50
- Have BV and/or a yeast infection
Conditions which would prevent you from participating in this study:
- Currently pregnant or breastfeeding
Compensation:
Participants will be compensated $250. Parking validation and bus tickets are provided.
Clinic Location:
Our clinic is located on the 11th floor of the Ninth and Jefferson Building at Harborview Medical Center and open Monday through Friday 8am to 5:30pm.
