Application Process and Position Information

Resident Adviser Position

Position Description: The RA position is a dynamic position with many tasks and responsibilities.  See the 2020-21 RA Position Agreement for more specific details about the role. *Graduate and professional students are also eligible to apply for the Community Assistant (CA) position.

  • Agreement Period: Early September – Mid-June (nine months) with break period responsibilities.
  • Schedule: approximately 19.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with night, weekend, and break period responsibilities.
  • Compensation (2019-20): The RA position is compensated at a rate equal to the cost of room and $18.21 per academic quarter day on their Dining Account for the 2020-21 academic year. The RA is compensated an additional daily prorated amount during Autumn Training. Additionally, the RA is compensated $37.50 per academic quarter for laundry; laundry funds are added to a laundry account on the RA’s Husky Card. The RA is provided a single or double room or a room within an apartment and is not assigned a roommate. The RA receives additional compensation for providing 24-hour duty during break periods.

Selection Process & Important Dates for 2020-21

The selection process for the RA position has three steps:

Step 1: Written Application All Candidates submit a written application via Catalyst for consideration Due by 8:00 AM on Monday, January 11, 2021
Step 2: In Person Interviews Candidates moving on to the next stage of the process will sign up for and participate in an in-person individual interview Interviews are held at various times and locations February 1 – 5, 2021
Step 3: Student Leader Class Candidates who move beyond the interview will participate in a quarter long class that will determine final selection of candidates Class offered either M/W or T/Th at various times and locations during spring quarter

*Residential Life provides an affinity space centering the experiences of  our Black, Indigenous or Person of Color student leaders and professional staff members called B.I.P.O.C Gathering.  We would like to invite students interested in applying to a student leader position who hold one or more of these identities to come chat with us and ask about our experiences working within Residential Life and the selection process during the information session on November 12.

Communication During the Process

Candidates will receive emails to their UW email throughout the process updating them on the status of their candidacy. Email is the primary method of communication during this process. Emails will come from either Shannon Bradley (shannb3@uw.edu) or the HFS Residence Education email (hfsresed@uw.edu), so make sure these emails are not set to go to spam.

Candidates should not expect to receive communication regarding their application until after the application is closed on January 11, 2021.
