UHELP

What is UHELP?

UHELP stands for the University Health Education Leadership Program. UHELP is a program which gives student volunteers (peer health educators) an opportunity to develop leadership, facilitation, and communication skills.

What is a Peer Health Educator?

A Peer Health Educator (PHE) is a student volunteer who is trained to conduct a variety of health promotion activities to residence halls, Greek Houses, Classes, FIGs, or any other organized group on campus on any of our 11 presentations. Check out a list of our presentations here. To request a UHELP presentation, complete the Presentation Request form (scroll to bottom of the link) . Some of the activities a PHE does include:

  • Conduct presentations
  • Plan campus-wide events such as Wellness Week, the Health and Fitness Fair, and more.
  • Staff the Wellness Resource Center
  • Develop Wellpup handouts and bulletin boards
  • Talk with other students one-to-one
  • Give tours of Hall Health
  • Attend regional and national conferences
  • Participate on various campus committees
  • Write, edit, and produce The WellDawg, a campus wide distributed newsletter on current health concerns, events, and answers to common health questions.
  • Write the online column "Ask UHELP"
  • And best of all, we have a lot of fun!

Who can become a PHE?

UHELP will begin recruitment for the 2009-2010 PHEs during Winter Quarter.  If you are interested in joining, please contact UHELP at 206-543-8006 or uhelp@u.washington.edu
