UW Student Insurance Offers Free HPV Vaccinations

photo of girl smilingThe UW Student Insurance Office, a unit of Student Life, is offering free vaccinations against the human papilloma virus (HPV) to female students, spouses, and domestic partners who are covered by the UW Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan.

The HPV vaccine is a 3-shot series.  There will be a $37 administration fee charged per injection, but the $165 fee per vaccination will be waived.

Where are the free HPV vaccinations offered?

The vaccinations are available only at Hall Health Primary Care Center.

Who is eligible to receive the HPV Voucher?

The HPV Voucher is available to females age 19 and over who are covered by the UW Student Health Insurance Plan. (Females through age 18 are covered for the vaccine under the Vaccine for Children Program.)

What is the process for obtaining the HPV vaccine?

If you are a woman between the ages of 19 and 26:

  1. Apply for the HPV Voucher at http://depts.washington.edu/hpvshots/
  2. Once you have obtained the HPV voucher, visit Hall Health and check-in at the Patient Service Center (PSC) (located in the front lobby) and present your HPV voucher to the PSC representative.  You will be asked to pay the $35.00 administration fee for each vaccine dose.
  3. Once payment is received, you will be directed to the Immunization Clinic’s waiting area.  Wait for an Immunization Clinic Nurse to call your name and receive your first vaccine dose.

Because the HPV vaccine is a 3-shot series, you will need to return to Hall Health in two months to receive the second dose of the vaccine and in 6 months to receive the third.  Please print a voucher for each subsequent visit and check in with the PSC to pay the administration fee for the dose. You will then be re-directed to the Immunization Clinic.

If you are a woman outside the ages of 19 and 26:

Explain to the PSC representative that you would like to see a Triage Nurse to request an off–label order for the HPV vaccine with voucher.
  3. During your visit with the Triage Nurse, explain that you are requesting an off-label order for the HPV vaccine with voucher.
  4. Once your visit with the Triage Nurse is complete, you will be directed back to the PSC to pay the $35.00 administration fee for each vaccine dose.

Please print another voucher; you will not need to see the Triage Nurse.  Just check in with the PSC to pay the administration fee for the vaccine does and you will then be re-directed to the Immunization Clinic.
