Inquiry Based Stress Reduction GroupInquiry Based Stress Reduction: A practical approach to mindful living. This is a new 8-week group that goes beyond mindfulness meditation practice into offering concrete ways of applying the principles of mindfulness and inquiry in our daily lives. We suffer when we believe something - a thought or a belief that argues with reality. When we inquire into that belief or stressful thought, we get less confused and gain clarity. Inquiry Based Stress Reduction (IBSR) is a clinical adaptation of “The Work of Byron Katie.” It consists of 4 questions, Turnarounds, and examples. It is simple yet powerful process that can lead to a life of inner freedom and peace. It requires no spiritual or intellectual preparation, no beliefs or psychological acuteness – just a desire to know the truth about yourself. There are 2 parts to IBSR. The first is writing out your judgments – your concepts about any stressful idea, realtionship or situation in your life. The second is investigating each written statement, using the four questions, and then turning the statement around to experience what is as true or truer. This is a time-limited group with 8 sessions, one session per week. Each week we will explore a topic in detail (ex. difficult relationships, the body & eating, stress about money, academic problems, health and illness, etc.) and learn how to apply this simple process of inquiry to our stressful beliefs. We will also explore our addictions and how our addictions and stress are inter-related. This 8-week program is packed with practical ways to deal with things that cause stress in our daily lives. It includes mindfulness exercises and other daily practices to enhance the quality of our lives.
