Seasonal Influenza Vaccine

Announcement: Seasonal influenza vaccine is now available at the Hall Health Immunization Clinic. See also UWellness: Influenza (Flu) Prevention & Immunization for information on other locations to get your flu shot.

We carry two vaccine types (as supply is available):

  • Injectable (shot) form: for age 3 years and older
  • Nasal vaccine: for ages 2 years to age 50 years

Who should receive the influenza vaccine?

Any of our patients can receive influenza vaccine; however, we are encouraging Hall Health patients in the following groups to receive their vaccine at their earliest convenience:

  1. Women who are planning a pregnancy during the influenza season
  2. All children up to age 18 years
  3. Persons with chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, other lung disease, heart problems, compromised immune systems, kidney disease, or serious disorders of the blood, liver, or neurologic system
  4. Health Care Personnel (most receive vaccine free through their employment)
  5. Household contacts of persons with
    1. diseases weakening their immune system
    2. age < 6 months
    3. chronic diseases at risk for influenza complications
  6. International travelers
  7. Persons age 50 years and older
  8. Residents of nursing homes or other long term care facilities

Pregnant women and children under age 3 years are required by law to receive only the preservative-free vaccine.

Can I receive the seasonal influenza vaccine if I do not fall into a high risk group?

Anyone can get the seasonal influenza vaccine unless:

  • they are allergic to eggs,
  • have had a bad reaction to flu vaccine in the past

Some insurance companies may not pay for the vaccine if you are not in a high-risk group.

How much does the seasonal flu vaccine cost?

For anyone desiring seasonal influenza vaccine (not H1N1 "swine" flu):

UW STUDENTS ONLY $25 cash or check.

For students who wish to have their health insurance billed and for ALL non-students, the charge is $62 billed directly to your insurance.  We recommend that you verify your coverage before coming to Hall Health.  You also may call or visit our Billing Office at 206-616-1881.  You are responsible for all charges not covered by your insurance.

No appointments are necessary in our Immunization Clinic. Bring a book as you may have to wait.

Will this protect me against H1N1 (swine) flu?

Note: This is not the H1N1 novel influenza (swine) vaccine.  This vaccine will arrive in mid-October.  This site will be updated as more information becomes available.
