The student volunteers, also known as Peer Health Educators (PHEs), are trained to conduct a variety of health promotion and health education activities with and for other students:
-
PHEs conduct presentations in residence halls, FIG groups, Greek houses, classes and clubs on topics such as nutrition, fitness, safer sex, stress management and others.
-
PHEs help plan and conduct campus-wide events such as the Great American Smokeout, Alcohol Awareness Week, Sexual Responsiblity Week, and Safe Spring Break.
-
By arrangement, PHEs give tours of Hall Health, orienting students to the services that are available.
-
The Wellness Resource Center (Room 213, Hall Health) provides information and referrals on topics such as HIV testing, improving your diet, practicing safer sex, smoking cessation, cold care and more.
-
PHEs produce the UHELP newsletter, The WellDawg, which includes a calendar of activities and awareness days, articles on current health issues, and “Ask A PHE”, where you can get your health questions anonymously answered.
