Immunization for Health Sciences StudentsImportant Announcement: Hepatitis A DeadlineAugust 30, 2008 will be the last day that the HSIP will pay for the Hepatitis A vaccine as part of the health fee benefit, for those students who already received their first dose of vaccine from the HSIP. Read more... The University of Washington Health Sciences Center requires that its students, staff and faculty show documentation of protection against a number of vaccine-preventable diseases. The Health Sciences Immunization Program (HSIP) reviews students' documentation of protection, makes recommendations regarding requirements not yet met, and communicates students' compliance status to their school/program prior to and during placement at clinical sites. Hall Health Primary Care Center (“Hall Health”) works with the HSIP to provide immunization and counseling services that assist students in meeting the requirements. These services are provided to students who have paid the Health Fee at no cost and to other students at cost. The Health Fee is paid by each student, usually upon entry to the school or program of study. Because most new Health Sciences students enter school in Fall Quarter, special off-site clinics are set up for them in the Health Sciences Building as part of their orientation activities. For continuing (2nd, 3rd, 4th year) Health Science students who have already had their initial review appointment, the ongoing services they need are usually provided on a drop-in basis at the Immunization Clinic at Hall Health. Some of the schools/programs schedule their continuing students to receive services such as annual tuberculin skin tests at our off-site clinics in the Fall or Spring so that their students will not need to come to Hall Health on the upper campus. In addition, we sponsor off-site "flu shot" clinics at the Health Sciences Building every November. Please check this website periodically for our updated schedule of off-site clinics. Students who have questions about their compliance status should contact the HSIP staff at: Phone: 206-616-9074 |
