Jerry Haynes
Ed.D. Candidate
Jerry's career path has been unconventional. He was a School Speech Therapist
at a closed security correctional facility. His goal then was to eventually
move to a college campus position. After 16 years of rewarding and meaningful
professional work, funding for correctional education was threatened leading
Jerry to accept a position at a small, liberal arts college.
During the past six years Jerry has worked as a Dean in Washington’s
community college system.
His time as a GPHE student has allowed self-discovery and exploration.
Jerry beleives his experience in the correctional setting continues to
provide intellectual inspiration. This, and growing up in a poor working
class family, has sparked his interest in exploring issues surrounding
disenfranchised populations in education.
