Dr. Joann Linville
Ed.D. in Educational Leadership & Policy (Higher Education)

Dr. Linville completed her Ed.D. in 2003. Her research interests are in administration, particularly as it relates to community college faculty. Dr. Linville's dissertation focused on the impact of working in a union or nonunion two-year college setting on faculty members' reported job satisfaction and sense of perceived control.

Before becoming a GPHE student, Dr. Linville's professional background included nearly 30 years of faculty and administrative experience in the community college setting in Oregon, Washington, and Arizona. This experience included being a faculty member in health sciences and nursing, instructional administration in health and business at the division chair and dean level, and administration in student services.

The focus of Dr. Linville's most recent professional experience has been as chief student services officer in the two year college setting.  In November of 2001, just 18 months short of completing her doctoral program at the University of Washington, she accepted a position as Vice President for Student Services at Arizona Western College in Yuma, AZ. This position has permitted her the opportunity to provide leadership at the cabinet level in a mid-sized comprehensive community college.

Dr. Linville's plans for the future include continued work in her current position and the eventual pursuit of a community college presidency.

Dr. Linville's educational background prior to completing the Ed.D. includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Oregon, and a Master of Education degree in Student Personnel Administration from Western Washington University.
