Costs and Financial Aid

Tuition is payable on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Tuition for the 2009-2010 program is $310 per credit.


The cost of books for the program is approximately $500 - $800.


There is an $35 nonrefundable registration fee, technology fee (per credit), and a $50 nonrefundable application fee when applying to the program.


Professional Loans and Scholarships

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) offers scholarships and loans through its Foundation of Record Education (FORE). Call (312) 787-2672 x302 for an application. Applications are usually due by mid-June. The maximum loan award available to students in the HIHIM Program is $5,000. Only one loan will be awarded to an individual, although students may apply for a loan more than one time.

The Washington State Health Information Management Association and the Seattle Health Information Management Association offer scholarship awards once a year. Students in the HIHIM Program are eligible to apply for these scholarships. See Baccalaureate Degree for information on financial aid for degree students.

  • Information on private scholarships is available from the Office of Student Financial Aid Scholarship Office, 180 Schmitz, (206) 685-3504; some of these require financial need, but not all.
  • Your local library should be a good, free source for information on loans and scholarships.
  • Local financial institutions (banks, savings and loans) may also have low-interest educational loans.
