An international forum was held at the University of Washington in December 2009 to showcase the introduction of the “World Report on Child Injury Prevention,” the first-ever report published by the World Health Organization and UNICEF on the topic. Hosted by the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center and the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health, the forum provided an overview of children’s injuries worldwide and featured international injury experts from Bangladesh, Ghana, Mexico and the U.S. Speakers proposed ways to prevent injuries and deaths to children caused by burns, drowning, road traffic crashes, falls and poisonings, particularly in low and middle income countries. The Seattle event complemented an international effort coordinated by the World Health Organization to generate awareness about creating safer communities for children. |
