Lifeguards

No studies have been published that investigate the effectiveness of lifeguards in preventing drowning.

Being saved by a lifeguard might serve as a good proxy for near-drowning. If a good database existed of persons exposed (controls) and persons saved (cases) for a given time, a case-control study would be an efficient means of addressing this issue.
