Injury Epidemiology 590J

This course in injury epidemiology has been taught annually from 2000 to 2003 by Dr. Peter Cummings and other HIPRC faculty at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of Washington. The course is offered to emergency physicians, surgeons, nurses, MPH or MS students, graduates with training in epidemiology, and others in the public health field. The course was designed to give students an introduction to the field of injury epidemiology and injury control and includes discussion of the literature, data sources, methods, and problems in this area of epidemiology. It contains information to assist those who either wish to conduct research regarding the causes and outcomes of injuries, or those who need to evaluate injury research studies. During the course, students participate in group discussions to develop a research proposal. This course is offered during summer quarter at the University of Washington.
