Training and Education

Overview of Education and Training Programs

The overall goal of the HIPRC's education and training program is to foster the ongoing development of new and seasoned investigators and practitioners in the field of injury control. The program also works very closely with the research and practice community to develop educational opportunities that have a practical application in daily practice settings. The focus is to teach individuals, regionally, nationally and internationally, essential research and evaluation skills and the principles of applied injury control and prevention. Training opportunities have centered on developing collaborative working relationships across disciplines, as well as developing strong leaders in the field under the direction of experienced mentors. The HIPRC draws upon our accomplished physicians, scientists and technical staff to train others who have an interest in rigorous, research-based training. For the practice community, educational opportunities have a foundation in practical application of scientifically sound methods.

In September of 2001, the HIPRC adopted a strategic plan to describe the present and the future vision of our work. This process provided a basic foundation for all activities at the HIPRC. The vision statement, "Reducing the impact of injury and violence on people's lives through research, education, training and public awareness" encompasses the HIPRC's commitment to training and education activities. The following is a compilation of training and educational activities conducted by the faculty and technical staff at the HIPRC.
