From the Director of Graduate Studies:

Welcome to the University of Washington Graduate Program in History.  We are committed to training professional historians who advance scholarly understanding of the past as well as teach and engage broader publics.  Ranked in the top third of History graduate programs nationwide, our program currently enrolls more than 70 students pursuing MA and PhD degrees in a wide range of fields and is known for the breadth and depth of our faculty specializations.

We embrace interdisciplinary and comparative approaches to historical studies and provide students the opportunity to work with faculty in a variety of fields as well as faculty in affiliated programs elsewhere at the UW.   Our faculty and graduate students engage in a wide range of digital history projects dedicated to advancing scholarly research, teaching, and public understanding of the study of history.

If you are a current student, you can navigate through the menu at left to access important information about policies and procedures that you need to know while at the UW, as well as resources about coursework, dissertations, and professional opportunities.  If you are a prospective student, you also can find information about how to apply, what you’ll need, and what to expect.

If you have any questions about the program, please do not hesitate to contact me or contact the members of our Graduate Office staff:  Lori Anthony (Graduate Program Assistant) and Matt Erickson (Director of Academic Services). Whether you’re already enrolled or just considering applying, we are happy to hear from you.  Again, welcome!
