Declaring Honors in the History Major

Applications are now being accepted for History's departmental honors program. Please set up an appointment with History Undergraduate Advising to gain access to the online application. Applications will be due the second Friday of Winter quarter.

Qualified students may participate in the departmental honors program, working toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in history "with distinction." The history honors program requires 70 credits of history coursework, including a three-quarter sequence of methodology and independent research. Students must be in residence at the University consecutive spring, fall and winter quarters to complete this sequence.

To declare honors in the History major students must meet these prerequisites before winter quarter of their junior year:

  1. 3.30 University of Washington cumulative G.P.A.
  2. 3.5 history cumulative G.P.A.
  3. At least 10 credits of upper division history coursework (300-400 level) completed in residence at the University of Washington

Additionally, students should have a passion for the subject, a desire to engage in a great deal of independent research and writing, and a committment to be present within the history community.

Applying to Graduate

Students must complete a Graduation Application no later than the third Friday of the quarter in which they wish to graduate. Failure to adhere to these deadlines will delay your graduation. Graduation applications may be completed up to two quarters in advance; doing so guarantees Graduating Senior Priority (G.S.P.) status for the remaining two quarters..
