The History Minor
The minor in History allows students the flexibility to concentrate on a single geographic, chrolonogical, or topical area, or to pursue coursework in a wide variety of fields. History majors are not eligible to declare the History minor.
Declaring the Minor
To apply for a minor you must have completed at least 90 college credits. You should declare the minor through your major department. You are not required to contact the History Undergraduate Advising Office in order to pursue the minor, although we would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the minor or our courses.
To complete a History minor students must satisfy the following minimum requirements:
- 30 credits of history coursework. History coursework is defined as any course offered under HIST, HSTAA, HSTAM, HSTAS, or HSTEU, or officially cross-listed with the History department.
- A minimum of 20 of the 30 credits must be in the upper division (300-400 level)
- A minimum of 15 of the 20 upper division credits must be completed in residence at the University of Washington. Transfer and AP credit, correspondence courses, and foreign study courses are not classified as "in residence."
- A minimum grade of 2.0 in each course applied toward the minor.
Applying to Graduate
You must declare the minor before the last day of the quarter in which you wish to graduate. Failure to complete this paperwork will mean the minor is not posted to your UW transcript.
