History Major requirements
for students declaring the major prior to Autumn 2002
To complete a History major students must satisfy these minimum requirements:
- 55 credits of history
coursework, with a minimum history GPA of 2.25 and a grade of 2.0 in each
history course (courses below a 2.0 will not be applied toward any requirement
for the major, but will affect the History GPA).
- 25 credits of upper division
history coursework (300-400 level) completed in residence at the University
of Washington. Transfer and AP credit, correspondence courses, and foreign
study courses are not classified as "in residence."
- 5 credits in each of
the following areas of study, drawn from the departmental list of Approved
Courses:
- An approved
5-credit 400-level history seminar (HIST 494 or 498) completed at the
University of Washington in which a major research paper or its equivalent
will be written.
- 10 credits of approved
courses in the pre-modern period.
- 10 credits of approved
courses in the modern period.
The choice of elective
coursework is entirely up the the history major, so long as the above requirements
are fulfilled.
