Private gifts to History make an enormous difference in helping the Department
fulfill its goals of scholarship, teaching, and service. More specifically,
they underwrite such core academic activities as research, travel, course
development, and publication; attract the best graduate students; support
students needing financial assistance; reward achievements by faculty,
undergraduates, and graduate students; create new faculty positions (endowed
chairs) and enhance existing faculty positions (professorships); encourage
innovation and outreach; and assist in many other ways. While donors may contribute
to any of a substantial list of funds created through private and
foundation gifts to History, the Department has made priorities of the
funds described below. If you have questions or suggestions about supporting
the Department, please contact
me. And thank you for supporting History at the University of Washington. R. Kent Guy
