GIVE A GIFT

Private gifts to History make an enormous difference in helping the Department fulfill its goals of scholarship, teaching, and service. More specifically, they underwrite such core academic activities as research, travel, course development, and publication; attract the best graduate students; support students needing financial assistance; reward achievements by faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students; create new faculty positions (endowed chairs) and enhance existing faculty positions (professorships); encourage innovation and outreach; and assist in many other ways.

While donors may contribute to any of a substantial list of funds created through private and foundation gifts to History, the Department has made priorities of the funds described below. FRIENDS OF HISTORY FUND
This multi-purpose, discretionary fund serves the majority of the contributors to History. The Department uses it to support the History Writing Center and Undergraduate Advising Office, recognize student and faculty achievements, and keep the treasured Professor Emeritus Jon Bridgman in undergraduate classrooms.

HOWARD AND FRANCES KELLER ENDOWED FUND IN HISTORY
This endowment supports faculty research in History.

HISTORY MISCELLANEOUS FUND
This fund supports scholarships for History undergraduate and graduate students.

THE MILITARY HISTORY FUND
Supports faculty and visiting scholars working in the area of military history, or war and society, in any historical period and part of the world.

THOMAS AND CAMERON PRESSLY ENDOWMENT FOR FACULTY DEVELOPMENT IN HISTORY
Created in honor of Professor Pressly, a legendary teacher and specialist on America's Civil War, this fund helps faculty to develop new courses and integrate research and teaching activities.

HISTORY VISITING COMMITTEE GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP
This fund is used to recruit and support the best M.A. and Ph.D. students to the Department of History. The History faculty has long ranked additional money for graduate study as the Department's top need.
