Case 3: Antiretrovirals and Methadone

A 32-year-old male with a CD4 cell count of 215 cells/mm3 presents to clinic two weeks after starting his new antiretroviral regimen. He states she has been taking all of his medications. He is currently on a methadone maintenance program. Over the past few days he has been experiencing, chills with sweating, anxiety, diarrhea, and tremors. He now wants to stop his new antiretrovirals so he can feel "good" again.

Current Medications:

  • Didanosine (Videx EC): 400 mg PO qd
  • Zidovudine (Retrovir): 300 mg PO bid
  • Nevirapine (Viramune): 200 mg PO bid
  • Methadone (Methadose): 95mg PO qd
  • Lansoprazole (Prevacid): 30 mg PO qd
