Figure
2. Effect of Ritonavir plus Saquinavir on Selected Statin Drugs in HIV-Negative Individuals

In this study, HIV-negative individuals received pravastatin, atorvastatin, or simvastatin (40 mg each) on days 1-4 and then added the protease inhibitor combination of ritonavir (400 mg bid) plus saquinavir soft gel capsules (400 mg bid) on days 4-18. This figure shows the impact that ritonavir plus saquinavir had on the AUC of the statin drugs. This figure is from Fichtenbaum CJ, Gerber JG, Rosenkranz SL, et al. Pharmacokinetic interactions between protease inhibitors and statins in HIV seronegative volunteers: ACTG Study A5047. AIDS. 2002;16:569-77.
