Upon completing the module Perinatal Transmission, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss recommendations for HIV testing of pregnant women.
  2. Understand appropriate strategies for use of antiretroviral therapy in pregnant HIV-infected women.
  3. Describe appropriate use of rapid HIV testing for women presenting in labor with no prior HIV testing.
  4. Discuss the impact of maternal intrapartum antiretroviral therapy for HIV-infected women presenting in labor.
  5. List 3 or more factors associated with increase risk of perinatal HIV transmission.
  6. Summarize indications for cesarean section delivery in HIV-infected pregnant women.
  7. Understand the approach to diagnosing HIV in a child born to an HIV-infected mother.
  8. Describe recommendations for neonatal antiretroviral therapy.
