Buprenorphine was the first schedule III medication to receive approval under the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000) for use by physicians in office-based treatment programs. Physicians interested in prescribing buprenorphine need to undergo special training and receive a waiver from the Center for Substance Abuse and Treatment. |
