The 2010 CFAR Joint Symposium on HIV Research in Women was hosted by the Chicago Developmental Center for AIDS Research. The program consisted of three sessions: Primary Prevention of HIV in Women, Treatment and Co-Morbidities, and HIV and the Female Life Course. Each session integrated basic science, clinical and socio-behavioral presentations and was chaired by a senior faculty member and co-chaired by a junior faculty member. Panels and discussion after each session synthesized finding and gaps in the research and encouraged mentorship of junior investigators.
The program included 16 oral presentations by junior investigators whose abstracts were selected from the 80 abstracts that were submitted by prospective participants. There were also 9 invited talks by senior investigators and a keynote address by Dr. Sharon Hillier. In addition to those who presented, ten junior investigators with outstanding abstracts received travel awards to attend the meeting and have the opportunity to network and receive feedback from more senior investigators. Mentoring activities also included a meet the professor session and a networking reception.
