We have been working in the area of Tumor Immunology for many years, obtaining some of the first evidence for immunological reactions against human cancers and having made some of the first monoclonal anitbodies to such. Recent studies have identified two new biomarkers for the diagnosis of ovarian carcinoma by assaying serum and other body fluids: HE4 and mesothelin; mesothelin is also a biomarker for mesothelioma. Other work focuses on the generation of tumor destructive immune responses mediated by T lymphocytes, primarily by using therapeutic tumor vaccines that engage costimulatory molecules.
