The work in our laboratory is focussed on the hemostasis, ultrastructure, and normal signalling within the cerebral microvasculature, and their responses to conditions of injury, including ischemia. These studies follow from the consequences of focal ischemia in stroke patients. Current work examines the interactions of the cellular and matrix components of the neurovascular unit (including the endothelium, astrocytes, and cells of the monocytoid lineage), and their relationships to the integrity of the blood brain barrier. This group has had a long-term interest in clinical recanalization methods in thrombotic-thromboembolic stroke and their consequences to hemostasis, to the neurovascular unit, and to the evolution of brain injury and recovery. |
