Marketing and Tailoring Hypertension Control via 911 Responders

This study uses communications strategies, delivered through the traditional emergency medical response system, to increase the proportion of low-income adults who obtain blood pressure screening and follow-up information for hypertension referral and treatment options. In collaboration with King County (WA) Emergency Medical Services, this project will test the effectiveness of two health marketing approaches that vary personalized risk information and promotional gifts in motivating potentially high-risk people, identified by 911 responders, to come to a local fire station for hypertension screening.

Marketing Workplace Chronic Disease Prevention

This study evaluates a workplace consulting intervention designed to increase employer adoption of chronic disease prevention and control best practices in their workplace benefits, policies, and programs. The intervention markets the business case that employers can help control health care costs and productivity losses through adoption of 17 chronic disease prevention and control practices recommended by national expert sources. The intervention also enables employer implementation by providing tools for each practice. The University of Washington and the American Cancer Society, Great West Division are collaborating to deliver the intervention to 48 medium-sized employers in the greater Puget Sound region who have a high proportion of socio-economically disadvantaged employees.
